Comment: Subject of Pindar's 5th and 6th Isthmian ode, though also a Nemean victor (Pi. I. 5.18-9, 6.3-4). I have followed Farrington (2012), no. 1.31 and p. 110 note 236 for the dating, based on Pi. I. 5.48 referring to the Battle of Salamis as a recent event; the 5th ode is chronologically later than the 6th. Phylakidas won in the pankration; though this is not made explicit for his Nemean victory it is only logical; the 6th Isthmian ode is specifically for his victory as a pais. - PK In Isth. 5. 59-61, Pindar praises Pytheas for training Phylakidas. Phylakidas, in addition to winning at the Nemea, also won two Isthmian victories, in perhaps 482 and 480 or 480 and 478 BC. - EK
